Pharmacy Technician Certification in Alaska

Requirements:

There are five requirements to become a Pharmacy Technician in Alaska:

  1. Submit a completed application with your name, mailing address, telephone number and date of birth (must be over 18 years of age).
  2. In your application you must certify that you have not been convicted of any felony’s or other crimes that may interfere with your ability to perform the duties of your job safely and competently
  3. Proof of earning a high school diploma or GED. Must also include the name of the institution and the date the degree was earned.
  4. Verify that you are fluent in reading, writing and speaking the English language
  5. Pays the application fee (listed below)

Additionally:
If you will be assisting in preparing sterile pharmaceuticals (including parenteral meds) you must also have 40 hours of on-the-job training in preparing, sterilization, proper technique and other duties prior to being able to perform those tasks regularly.

$100 ($50 nonrefundable application fee and $50 technician license fee)

License Renewal:
When you are licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Alaska you are then required to renew your license on June 30th of even-numbered years. This is regardless of what year your license was first issued. There is one exception to this rule: new licenses which have been issued within 90 days of the expiration date. These licenses are issued through to the next two year cycle.

At the time of this writing the CE requirements are as follows:
Applicants are required to have 10 contact hours of continuing education during the concluding licensing period. The Alaska Board of Pharmacy can, if it chooses, impose additional CE requirements.

License Transfer:
Must fill out new application.
